Leavenworth, Kan. – The men's and women's cross country teams competed this past weekend, resulting in two athletes advancing to the NAIA Cross Country National Meet. Bethany Schrag qualified for the second straight year, and freshman Asa Johnson qualified on the men's side.
WOMEN
The women competed at a high level, finishing 5th overall and breaking the team average school record with a time of 25:57. Bethany Schrag once again led the women, placing 11th overall with a time of 23:24, earning All-Conference honors and qualifying for the NAIA National Meet for the second straight year.
Emma Graber ran a lifetime best of 24:38, finishing 25th overall. Freshman Adah Hodge ran her first career 6K, finishing 39th overall with a time of 25:39. Junior Taryn Paulino also ran a season best of 26:42 to place 49th. Ariana Cerda rounded out the top five with a time of 29:20 for 68th, while Sydney Hart finished 77th with a time of 30:52.
Bethany Schrag will return to the NAIA National Meet in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday, November 21. Emma Graber was nominated as the team's Champion of Character.
MEN
The men finished 4th overall, the highest finish in program history! The team also broke the school record for team average time with an average of 27:04.
Asa Johnson led the way for Bethel with a time of 25:58, earning All-Conference honors and a trip to the national meet in his freshman season. Junior Marcus Fiedler finished 24th overall with a time of 26:13, narrowly missing a trip to nationals by less than a second. Junior David Ulteras finished 33rd overall with a time of 26:55. Gavin Gishi finished 53rd with a lifetime best of 27:56, and freshman Braylon Hunnell wrapped up his first collegiate campaign.
Other Men
Marcus Fiedler was nominated as the team's KCAC Champion of Character.
The NAIA National Meet will take place November 21st in Tallahassee, Florida!
