Joseph Gogus is in his eighth year at the helm of the Bethel College competitive cheer team, which he built from the ground up.
Gogus was named KCAC Cheer Coach of the Year during the 2022-23 season. He was also named to this title in 2017. Gogus' squads have amassed 3 KCAC Conference Titles, and 3 KCAC Runner-up finishes. Gogus currently serves as the KCAC Sport Chair.
Under Gogus' direction, he has taken Bethel to three different NAIA Competitive Cheer championships, finishing in 8th, 10th, and 12th places. HE currently also serves on the NAIA Executive Committee.
24 individuals have received All-KCAC status during Gogus' time at Bethel. He has also coached 11 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, while also having his program recognized three times as an NAIA Scholar Team.
Under Gogus' guidance, Bethel Cheer has achieved an 88% win percentage against fully declared conference teams over a seven year span.
Before coming to Bethel, Coach Gogus was at the South Choctaw Academy in Toxey, Alabama. Here he amassed three state cheerleading championships in three years as the stunt coach and choreographer.
Coach Gogus has also coached other varsity sports in Alabama, with two state championships in track and field and two state runner-up teams in volleyball on his resume. He has also established a custom sports performance business aimed at high school athletes in a variety of sports, with a major focus on cheerleading.
Coach Gogus graduated with his Bachelor's in Physical Education degree from the University of West Alabama-Livingston. While at UWA, he was a four-year letter winner in cross country. He was a UWA cheerleader for three years, including two trips to the UCA Nationals in Orlando.
