Dr. Drametrice Smith is in his second year of his second stint with the program as Co-Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach. With 19 years of coaching experience across professional and collegiate levels. Smith brings a deep knowledge of recruiting experience, defensive schematic football, and player development.
Last season under Smith's development two players on the defensive side of the ball made All KCAC TEAM (Second Team, Defensive Back - Amerid Marial and All KCAC Third Team Linebacker - Jaric Woodley).
Most recently, served as the 2026 Defensive Quality Control Coach a part of the The Hula Bowl which is an annual postseason college football all-star game invite only for the top 120 seniors sponsored by the NFL. It lets top college athletes showcase their skills and meet with scouts from the NFL, UFL, and CFL under Super Bowl XXXVII Champion Jon Gruden and defensive mastermind John Fox who is currently with the Buffalo Bills staff.
Dr. Smith was the former Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator for America Locomotiva, a professional team in Brazil’s Liga BFA. He was previously the Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at the University of Fort Lauderdale (NCCAA – FL) and has held coaching roles at Fort Valley State University, Edward Waters University, Lane College, Bacone College, Arkansas Baptist College, Iand Feather River College. His first stint at Bethel came in 2012 as a Defensive Line Coach and Equipment Manager.
Smith also brings NFL experience, having worked with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a Defensive Backs Coach and serving as an Executive Intern in the league’s front office. He has played a key role in developing players for professional football, including Andrew Farmer, who signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023.
A former middle linebacker in the United Indoor Football League, Smith played collegiate football at the University of South Florida, earning multiple academic honors. He holds a Doctor of Education in Education and Human Sciences (2024), a Master’s in Sport Management (2014), and a Bachelor’s in Communication (2006).
Originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Smith. He was adopted by Delores Williams and Devarn Flowers. Smith has a daughter who resides in Orlando, Florida. He is the oldest of seven siblings Maurice Smith, Ashley Smith, Marcus Smith, Bryan Smith, Jasmine James-Smith, and the late Robert James Jr.
Outside of football, Smith enjoys traveling, fishing, writing spoken word music, and publishing books. Smith was featured on Kansas PBS with Victor Hogstrom for his book that is making a lot of noise across the country titled "A Grit Mentality". Also, he is an internationally published author, with his work “At-Risk Male Student Athletes’ Perception of Support Efforts to Enhance Retention at a Faith-Based University” gaining recognition in academic and athletic circles alike.
