LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - The Bethel Threshers Men's Soccer Team took on the University of Saint Mary Spires on the road Saturday evening with KCAC Postseason implications on the line. The Threshers needed a win to move into the postseason. That is exactly what they did as Bethel took down the Spires 3-1.
Juan Volker got the scoring started for the contest off of a rebounded shot. A missed header on a corner kick found its way to Volker, who ripped one past the keeper with his right foot.
The Spires answered back in the 31st minute tying the contest 1-1.
The second goal for the Threshers also came off of a rebounded shot. This time the player that was in the right spot at the right time was
Cristobal Goldberg. After
Muhamed Jammeh crossed a ball into the box for
Juan Nicoletti and Nicoletti bounced it off of the Spire keeper, Goldberg put the Threshers up for good late in the first half.
Bethel was able to add to their lead in the second half when their leading scorer on the season Nicoletti got in on the scoring. Nicoletti received an amazing pass from
Tomas White, danced around a few Spire defenders as he showed off some fancy footwork before cutting back and blasting one past the keeper to pad the lead.
The Thresher defense would hold on as they secured their spot in the KCAC Postseason tournament with the 3-1 victory. Thresher keeper
Sean Holness was not challenged much in the contest, thanks to the Thresher defense, as he finished with 4 saves.
The Threshers 8 wins this season are their most in the last 10 years.
Juan Nicoletti keeps adding to his single season goals scored record as he now has 13 goals on the season.
Bethel will have to wait for all of the KCAC regular season matches to be played out before they find out who they will face off in the postseason tournament. Check BethelThreshers.com at a later date for updates on the Men's Soccer schedule.
