OLATHE, Kan. - The No. 8 Bethel Thresher Men's Basketball team traveled to take on Mid-America Nazarene in their final non-conference matchup before KCAC Conference play starts. The Threshers were able to hold off the Pioneers late run to take an 85-73 victory to move to 3-1 on the year.
Bryant Mocaby carried the load for the Threshers in the first half as he led all scorers at halftime with 15 points. After trailing for the first twelve minutes of the contest, Bethel was able to take the lead on back-to-back three point baskets from
Nick Bonner and Mocaby. Despite their All-American
Jaylon Scott not scoring in the first half, Bethel was able to take a 45-39 lead into the intermission as he facilitated finishing the half with 7 assists.Â
Scott was able to get things going in the second half as he led all scorers in the half with 16 points. The Threshers led by as much as ten points early in the second half, but were never quite able to pull away from the Pioneers. The Bethel lead hovered around the five point mark for much of the final period of play.
Bryant Mocaby led the Threshers offense with 19 points on 6 of 10 shooting including 3 of 6 from three point range.
Jaylon Scott recorded his fourth double-double of the season with a 16 point, 12 board, 7 assist and 3 steal performance.
Clifford Byrd II had 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Tavaughn Flowers and
Nick Bonner added 10 points a piece in the win.Â
The Threshers will be back in action on Wednesday, November 17th as they host Bethany College at 8:00 PM inside Thresher Gym to open up KCAC Conference play.Â
