NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Volleyball team hosted the two-time defending KCAC Champion Ottawa Braves on Tuesday evening. The Threshers dropped a tightly contested opening set 25-23, the second set 25-18 and tightly contested third set 25-23.
The opening set saw a tight contest between the Threshers and Braves. Both teams began trading points until the Braves built up a 9-5 lead. Bethel rallied back to tie the contest 16-16 with a block from
Mia Loganbill and
Julie Wilhite. The Threshers turned in four blocks in the opening set loss.
Both teams alternated taking the lead and tying the contest with the Braves taking the final lead 25-23. Loganbill led the attack with 6 kills, including the Threshers final two points of the set.
Katey Wilhelm turned in 7 digs, while
Mia Roman had 8 assists.
Ottawa scored the first three points of the second set before Bethel rallied to tie the contest 4-4. Halfway through the set the Threshers built up a 10-7 lead. Ottawa closed out the set out-scoring Bethel 18-8. Loganbill hit .750 in the set converting on three of her four chances. As a team, the Threshers recorded 19 digs in the set.
Set three once again saw the Braves take a lead early on with the Threshers mounting a comeback. With Ottawa leading 12-8 Bethel rallied to tie the contest 13 all. Neither team led by more than two points the rest of the set. The Threshers totaled 4 blocks in the 25-23 third set loss. Bethel had seven players record a kill in the set.
Neither team hit extremely well in the contest with Bethel hitting just .098 and the Braves hitting .170. Ottawa had two players record double-digit kills while
Mia Loganbill (13) was the lone Thresher to record double-digit kills. Four Threshers turned in double-digit dig performances led by
Katey Wilhelm with 25.
Julie Wilhite had three solo blocks and two assist blocks in the loss.
Bethel will be back in action on Saturday, October 15th as they host the Bethany Swedes with first serve set for 3:00 PM.
