YORK, Neb. - The Bethel College Women's Soccer team looked to keep their playoff hopes alive as they took on the York Panthers. Neither team was able to capitalize on their opportunities until the 81st minute when
Abby Edson put Bethel on the board.
Both teams had ample opportunities to get on the board in the opening 45 minutes as York took eight shots and Bethel six. Neither team was successful in their attempts as we entered the intermission in a nill-nill tie.
The score remained 0-0 until the 81st minute when the Threshers were awarded a corner kick.
Claire Hedlund took the corner for the Threshers where she was able to find
Abby Edson on the far side of the box. After a bounce Edson settled the ball with her chest before taking one touch with her right foot putting the ball in the upper 90 as it soared over the Panther keeper and a defender.
The Thresher defense held strong in the final nine minutes as they earned their fourth clean sheet of the season.
Vanessa Torres played all 90 minutes in goal for Bethel as she recorded 7 saves in the win.
Bethel was led in shots by
Katy Ponce who took four, putting all four on goal. The shot total was close for both sides as Bethel out-shot York 13(10) to 12(7) in the victory.Â
The Threshers will need all of Saturday's contest to conclude before finding out if they have made it into the KCAC Tournament. The conference is set to release the schedule for the playoffs this evening following the conclusion of all play.
