Volleyball's season comes to an end in KCAC Quarterfinal

HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The No. 4 seeded Bethel College Volleyball team opened up KCAC Tournament play in the quarterfinals against the No. 5 seeded Saint Mary Spires. Saint Mary took the match in three straight sets, 25-21, 25-23 and 25-17.

Bethel scored the first three points of the contest on their way to building up a 13-8 lead to force a Saint Mary timeout. Jordan Boone, Kylah Carter and Julie Wilhite had two kills a piece in the opening 21 points. Following the USM timeout, the Spires outscored the Threshers 13-8 to take the set 25-21. Carter finished with four kills in the opening set loss.

The second set saw Saint Mary control the contest early as they took an early 7-3 lead. Bethel responded with a 5-0 run to take an 8-7 lead. Neither team led by more than two points until the Threshers built up a 17-14 lead with four unanswered. Saint Mary responded tying the contest at 17 all. After Bethel scored the next point, both teams traded points until BC led by one 19-18. At this point the Spires rattled off three straight to take the late advantage. Both teams traded 2-0 runs as the Spires took the set 25-23.

Saint Mary had all of the momentum at this point in the match and the third set reflected that. The Spires jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. Bethel was able to rally back to trail by just two, 14-12. Unfortunately for the Threshers, the Spires responded to their run by closing out the contest outscoring BC 11-5 down the stretch.

Mia Loganbill led the Thresher attack with 9 kills in her final contest in a Bethel uniform. Kaitlyn Shima had 17 assists in the three set loss. Both Maddie Chupp and Katey Wilhelm recorded 15 digs in the contest.

Bethel will return all but senior's Mia Loganbill and Arianna Gomez to next year's roster as they will look to continue their climb in the conference ranks.
