VALLEJO, Calif. - The Bethel College Women's Basketball team continued their California road trip as they took on the California State Maritime Keelhaulers. The Threshers used a high scoring first half to pick up their first win of the season 83-68.
The Threshers used a well balanced scoring attack in the opening 10 minutes as seven players scored a bucket led by
Jasmine Peete and
Celeste Lemus with four points a piece. Bethel shot 37.5 percent from the floor in the opening quarter.
Bethel put up their biggest quarter of the season in the second scoring 28 points on 62/60/50 splits. Peete exploded for 10 points in the frame, while
Brianna Clark added in six on two of two from downtown.
After a 48-35 contest at the intermission, the two teams played an even third. The Keelhaulers shot 50 percent from the floor, but were unable to cut into the Thresher lead as BC pulled in six offensive boards.
Jordyn Lyons led the way in the quarter for Bethel scoring five of her 13 points.Â
The final quarter saw Bethel once again outscore CSU Maritime 18-16 as they pulled away for their first victory of the 2022-23 season. Peete and
Parker Schroeder put up six points a piece as the duo scored two thirds of the teams fourth quarter points.Â
Jasmine Peete led all scorers with 23 points while pulling in 13 rebounds to record her first double-double in a Thresher uniform. Three other Threshers scored in double-figures in the win.
Both teams shot nearly identical percentages with BC shooting 41.5 and CSUM shooting 41.3. The difference in the ball game came from downtown where Bethel was 9 of 28 for 32.1 percent and CSU Maritime was just 2 of 13 for 15.5 percent.
The Threshers will be back in action for an exhibition against NCAA DI UC Davis with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 PM CT.
