OTTAWA, Kan. - The Bethel College Men's Basketball team looked to rebound from their loss to #7 OKWU on Thursday night as they took on Ottawa. Bethel was able to recover from blowing a large lead late in the second half to take the double overtime thrill 94-91 behind a game high 35 points from
Bryant Mocaby.
The game started out with both teams going back and forth with neither team leading by more than three points until the Braves took a four point lead with just over eight minutes left. They were able to quickly turn that four point lead into ten points with a 15-9 run.
Despite trailing by nine points at the intermission, the Threshers were able to slowly chip away at the Braves lead before an offensive explosion saw them with the largest lead of the game for either side. They went up 11 points with 1:40 left in regulation and 12 points with 58 seconds left. The Braves outscored the Threshers 14-2Â in the final 58 seconds to tie the contest at 74 at the end of regulation.Â
In the first overtime, Mocaby scored all seven of the Threshers points as the two squads finished all square again, this time at 81.Â
The second over time period saw Bethel trail for the first time since the 11:40 mark in the second quarter. After the Braves took the two point lead, Bethel tied the game on their ensuing possession before getting a stop on the defensive end. Both teams traded a pair of made free throws to tie the game at 85. Bethel then scored on back to back possessions with a stop sandwiched between the two to take a five point advantage.
Nick Bonner knocked down two free throws to put Bethel up by three. Ottawa was able to get a decent look at the basket as the time expired, but the shot came up short as the Threshers came away with the 94-91 double overtime road victory.
