Third quarter struggles loom large for Threshers in 53-52 loss to Panthers

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Women's Basketball team struggled to slow down York in the third quarter as the Panthers exploded for 26 points in the frame. Bethel had their chances down the stretch to put the game away, but York clawed their way back for a 53-52 victory.

The first two quarter saw the Threshers play great defense while putting the ball in the basket at a 31% clip. Holding the Panthers to just 18% shooting in the first half Bethel took a 26-16 lead into the intermission. Jordyn Lyons led the way for the Threshers in the opening 20 minutes with 7 points on 2 of 3 shooting from three.

York came out of the break with new life as they outscored Bethel 26-13 in the frame to take a three point lead into the final quarter. Josie Stupey scored 15 of her game high 20 points in the second half to keep Bethel in the contest. The Threshers held a five point lead with under two minutes left to go in regulation, but were outscored 8-2 in those final two minutes as York pulled out the come from behind victory after trailing by as much as 13 points.

The Threshers outscored the Panthers in every quarter but the third. In that quarter Bethel struggled to slow down the York attack as they had three players score five points or more.

Next Up
 
The Threshers have finished up KCAC play before the holiday break. They will return to action on December 29th for an exhibition match with Emporia State before taking on Northwestern Oklahoma State in an exhibition match on the 31st. Both contests are scheduled to be on the road.
