NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Softball team hosted the Saint Mary Spires at Allen Wedel Field for KCAC Conference opening play. The Threshers dropped a close game one 3-2 before getting run ruled in the second game of the doubleheader 9-0.
GAME 1 L 3-2
The Spires struck first in the top of the opening frame. Bethel answered back in the bottom half with timely two out hitting as
Marissa Harrison and
Peyton Uznanski strung together back to back two-out doubles tying the contest at 1. Both teams once again exchanged runs in the third inning as the Threshers once again used great two-out hitting, this time from
Dakota Piovesan as she smacked an RBI single up the middle. The Spires added to their total in the top half of the fifth inning and held the Thresher offense at bay to take the 3-2 victory.

GAME 2 L 9-0
The Spires took control of the contest in game two early as they put up three runs in the first inning and five in the second to take a very early 8-0 lead. They would add another run to their total in the fourth. The Thresher bats were held at bay for much of the contest as they didn't record their first hit until the bottom of the fifth when
Bailea Crist hit a line drive up the middle. The Threshers had just six total baserunners in the game.
The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, March 19th as they travel to Bartlesville, Okla. for a KCAC Conference doubleheader with the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan that is set to start at 1:00 PM.
