WINFIELD, Kan. - The Bethel College Men's Tennis team took on the Southwestern College Moundbuilders to open up KCAC Conference play on Thursday afternoon. The Threshers dropped a closely contested doubles point before falling in five of the six singles matches.
Bethel was defeated pretty handily in the #1 doubles match. The Threshers were able to even doubles up after
Tomas Quercia and
Joaquin Pluis won at #3 doubles 6-4. The point came down to #2 doubles where the Moundbuilders were able to edge out the Threshers for the point 6-4.Â
The top three spots for the Threshers all went to a third set, with Bethel coming out on the right side of just one of those matches.
Michael Cech dropped his first set 6-4 before evening the match with a 6-4 victory, he eventually dropped his third set 6-2.
Milan Bucek had all three of his sets end in tie breakers. He lost the first set 7-6(7-5), won the second 7-6(7-5) and dropped the third 7-6(7-4).
Nolan Schrader won his first set 6-1, lost the second 1-6 and won the third 6-4 to pick up the lone point in the match for the Threshers. Quercia dropped his match with a pair of 6-4 set losses. Pluis lost his first set in a 7-6(7-5) tie breaker before dropping the second set 6-1.
Jordan Singh fell 6-1 and 6-0 at #6 singles.
The Threshers will be back on the court on Saturday, March 26th as they host the Bethany Swedes with first serve set for noon at the Ward Tennis Center.
