NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Men's Tennis team hosted Bethany College on Saturday at the Ward Tennis Center with Bethel College Tennis Legend Marty Ward acting as the Interim Coach with Head Coach
Gabe Johnson needing to be away for personal reasons. Coach Ward was able to lead the Threshers to a 7-0 victory that included a doubles sweep.
All three doubles teams won their matches pretty handily, with #1 doubles team of
Michael Cech and
Milan Bucek not surrendering a game and #3 doubles team of
Tomas Quercia and
Joaquin Pluis only dropping two games. The #2 doubles match was the closest of the three, but
Nolan Schrader and
Jordan Singh were able to complete the sweep by taking a 6-4 victory.
Cech, playing #1 singles, took down his opponent with little fight as he won set one 6-1 and set two 6-3. Bucek handled his opponent as he rolled to two 6-0 set victories. Schrader and his opponent were one of two matches that needed a third and decisive set. After winning the opening set 6-4, Schrader dropped the second set 6-2 before picking up the victory in the super set 6-4. Quercia struggled to put away his opponent in the first set but pulled out a 7-6(9-7) victory before taking the match with a 6-1 second set victory. Pluis' match was the other to go to a third super set after he dropped the opening set 6-3 Pluis won the second 6-1 and took the super set 6-3. Singh wrapped up the sweep for the Threshers with a pair of 6-0 set victories to put away his opponent quickly.
The Threshers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 30th as they travel to Hillsboro to take on the Tabor Bluejays in KCAC play.
