Softball picks up split with 2-1 game two victory behind a complete game from Robinson

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Threshers hosted the Friends Falcons for KCAC Conference play at Allen Wedel Field on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. After taking a drubbing in game one, the Threshers bounced back to win a tight 2-1 ball game.

GAME 1 L, 14-2

The Threshers started game one off on the wrong foot allowing the Falcons to bat around and some in the opening frame as Friends hung 6 runs in the inning. They proceeded that with 2 runs in the second inning to take an early 8-0 lead. The Threshers answered the Falcons two runs in the second inning when Taylor Sanfillippo smacked a two-run homerun to left field. The game would be all Falcons the rest of the way as they tacked on six more runs to take game one 14-2. The story for the Threshers was their defense struggling to make plays as they made 6 errors in the loss.

Lauren Hurd - 1/2
Peyton Uznanski - 1/2
Taylor Sanfillippo - 1/2, R, 2 RBI

GAME 2 W, 2-1

Game two was a defensive battle as the two teams combined for just 9 hits. The Threshers struck first in the bottom of the second on a Dakota Piovesan two-RBI double that scored Olivia Nava and Brianna Reeves. Bethel was able to hold the Falcons at bay until the top of the sixth inning when a blunder in right field allowed Friends to score a two-out run. Friends was able to get runners in scoring position in the seventh inning with a pair of walks and an error. With two outs in the final frame, the bases loaded and a 3-2 count, freshman hurler Reagan Robinson was able to execute the payoff pitch closing out the 2-1 victory with a strikeout.

Olivia Nava - 2/3, R
Dakota Piovesan - 1/2, BB, 2 RBI
Taylor Sanfillippo - 1/3
Reagan Robinson - 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 3 SO, 2 HBP

The Threshers will be back on the diamond on Wednesday, April 6th as they host the McPherson College Bulldogs at Allen Wedel Field with first pitch set for 5:00 PM.
