Five Threshers score in double-figures as Women's Basketball defeats Ottawa by 16 points

OTTAWA, Kan. - The Bethel College women's basketball team got back into the win column thanks to five Threshers scoring 15+ points in their 95-79 victory over Ottawa University.

The Threshers never trailed in the contest as they just out to a quick 7-5 lead. Bethel then used a 14-5 run to lead by 11 points with just under three minutes left in the opening quarter.

After outscoring the Braves by ten in the opening ten minutes of play, Bethel was outscored by two in the second quarter despite having their best shooting quarter of the contest, 60 percent from the floor and 75 percent from three point range.

Bethel came out of the intermission ready to answer any punch the Braves threw at them. They did just that as they were able to open up their largest lead of the contest with 96 seconds left in the third after Ottawa cut it down to just six points early in the frame.

The Thresher defense came out strong for the final ten minutes as they held the Braves to just 11 percent shooting through the first five and a half minutes. Bethel shot just four of seven from the field in the frame but took 20 free throws, making 16 of them after taking just 12 in the first three quarters combined.

Both teams struggled to hold onto the ball as Bethel turned the ball over 21 times while forcing the Braves into 19.
 
Bethel was out rebounded by Ottawa, 43-35. 24 of Ottawa's 43 rebounds come on the offensive end of the floor.
 
Four of Bethel's starters scored in double figures led by Kendall Locke's game-high and career high 22 points.
 
The three other Thresher starters in double figures were Madyson McKinzie with 17 points, Natalie Richards with 16 points and Carley Robb with 15 points.
 
Caryn Yoder led the Bethel bench with 16 points in the contest.

All of the Threshers top five scorers were extremely efficient as Locke shot 60% from the floor and 100% from three. McKinzie shot 70% from the floor and 100% from three, while Richards shot 77% from the floor and 100% from three. Yoder was 90% from the charity stripe, while Robb shot 71% from the field and three.
