Threshers fall to Bulldogs 66-60 on Senior Night

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Women's Basketball team took on the McPherson Bulldogs for their senior night. After trailing for a majority of the contest, the Threshers made a run at the lead in the fourth quarter, but ultimately came up short as they fell 66-60. 

The Threshers fell behind early in the contest despite shooting the better percentage in the frame. Bethel put up just nine points on 31% shooting from the floor while McPherson shot 21% while putting up 15 points. The difference in the quarter came at the free throw line where Mac shot 7 of 8 while the Threshers didn't attempt one.

Bethel won the second quarter to trail by just one point at the intermission. The Bulldogs banked a shot in at the buzzer to hold onto the lead 30-29. Troi Lucas led Bethel in scoring at the half with 10 points.

McPherson held Bethel to just nine points once again in the third quarter as they had their largest scoring quarter of the contest.

Trailing 50-38 entering the fourth, Bethel started its come back efforts. The Threshers scored seven straight points to start the quarter, five from the hand of Brianna Clark. At the seven minute mark, Bethel trailed by just three points. After McPherson brought their lead back to seven, Bethel got five straight points from Josie Stupey to get within two, the closest the contest ever got. The Bulldogs were able to hold off the Threshers down the stretch as they held on for a 66-60 victory.

The difference in the contest came at the free throw line where McPherson was 22 of 29 and Bethel was 8 of 11.

By The Numbers

Eight Threshers scored in the loss led by Josie Stupey  with 11 points.

Troi Lucas, Jaycee Freshour and Carley Robb finished with 10 points each. 

The battle on the backboards saw an advantage in favor of the Bulldogs of 35-33.

Bethel was outscored by McPherson 32-22 in the paint.

Bethel pulled in 9 offensive boards that led to 6 second chance points.
