LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - The Bethel College Flag Football team picked up their first victory in program history as they defeated the Saint Mary Spires 18-7.
Kylah Rome got the scoring started for the contest as she capped off a 10 play drive that went 39 yards with a 7 yard touchdown run.
The Threshers extended their lead to 12-0 when Rome led another long drive. This time Bethel went 74 yards on 11 plays as Rome once again punched it in, this time from 6 yards out.
The Spires cut Bethel's lead to just 5 points in the third quarter following a 34 yard punt return. USM needed four plays to get four yards and cut the Threshers lead to 12-7.
With just under nine minutes left in the fourth quarter, Bethel got some cushion when Rome ran in her third touchdown of the contest. Her second 7 yard touchdown run put the Threshers up 18-7, the eventual final score.
The Threshers eclipsed the 200 yard mark for the second time this season as an offense.
