Volleyball sweeps Cottey in first home game of the season

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College volleyball team finally returned home for their first game inside Thresher Gym of the season. The Threshers picked up their fourth straight home win in a row, dating back to last season, with a three set sweep of Cottey College.

The first set started out as a back and forth affair with Cottey holding a three point lead early on, 15-12. Bethel answered with six straight points to lead by three. The Threshers never led the Comets back within more than two points as they held on for the 25-20 first set victory. 

Bethel held command in the second set as they jumped out to an early seven point lead, 11-4. The match never got closer than four points as the Threshers cruised to a 25-17 set victory.

Set three was all Threshers as they dominated the Comets exploding out to a 18-6 lead. The Threshers were able to rest some of their starters in the third set and coast to a 25-13 three set sweep.

In her first game back from injury and first game of the season, Katey Wilhelm led the Threshers' defense with 24 digs in the victory. Cam Offerle was Bethel's top attacker in the match recording 11 kills on 29 attempts. Darla Crow continued to be a wall up front for the Threshers as she recorded another four blocks to move her season total to 83, the highest mark in the country. Kaitlyn Shima recrded 20 assists in the victory as well.

The Threshers will be back in action at home on Saturday, September 9th as they host both College of the Ozarks and Randall University for a triangular beginning at 9 am.
