Football beats Ottawa in Overtime in Dramatic Fashion, 27-24

Ottawa, Kan. - Thresher Football wins in overtime over Ottawa by a one-handed game winning catch by Donte Hicks.

First Half
The game started with Ottawa drawing first blood late in the first quarter, as quarterback Taylor Eggers connected with Hagan Johnson for a 17-yard touchdown pass, giving Ottawa an early 7-0 lead. This touchdown capped off an impressive 14-play, 67-yard drive that consumed over seven minutes of game time. Ottawa's defense then held firm, forcing Bethel to punt on their first three possessions. However, Bethel found their rhythm early in the second quarter. Quarterback DJ Ciers quickly leveled the score with a 65-yard touchdown pass to Josiah Buller, needing only four plays and 46 seconds to move the ball down the field. This was just the beginning of a dominant second quarter for Bethel, as Ciers added two rushing touchdowns, one from nine yards out and another from 11 yards, sending Bethel into halftime with a 21-7 lead.
Second Half
The second half saw a resurgent Ottawa team. They methodically clawed their way back into the game, with Taylor Eggers leading a 12-play drive that finised with his 1-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, narrowing the score to 21-14. Ottawa continued to apply pressure, and in the fourth quarter, Eggers once again found the end zone with a 5-yard run, completing a 10-play, 66-yard drive to tie the game at 21-21 with just over five minutes remaining. Both teams had chances to pull ahead in regulation, but neither could capitalize, leading to overtime.
Overtime
Ottawa struck first in the extra period with a 30-yard field goal by Rhett Andersen, giving them a 24-21 advantage and putting the pressure on Bethel's offense.

Bethel answered by scoring on a 16 yard touchdown pass from DJ Ciers to Donte Hicks. Hicks making an incredible one-handed grab in the right corner of the endzone to seal the deal. 

Leaders
Ciers was the standout for Bethel, completing 13 of 25 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while also rushing for 73 yards and two more touchdowns on 18 carries. On the ground, Torriano Richardson provided key support, racking up 99 rushing yards on 13 carries, including a long 69-yard run that set up one of Bethel's touchdowns. Buller led the receiving corps with 73 yards and a touchdown on just three catches, while Hicks delivered the game-winning reception.
Defensively, Noah Miller was a dominant force for Bethel, tallying 16 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss. Rodrick Edwards also played a pivotal role, recording an interception that halted an Ottawa drive in the first quarter.

The win marks Bethel's third straight in the season, keeping their perfect record intact. The Threshers will be back in action next Saturday at Thresher Stadium against Avila @ 6PM.
