Sterling, KS (August 31) - Bethel College opened their 2024 football season with a commanding 13-0 victory over Sterling College on Saturday evening.
After a scoreless first quarter, Bethel broke the deadlock in the second quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback DJ Ciers, capping off a methodical 10-play, 71-yard drive. Matteo De Hoyos added the extra point to give the Threshers a 7-0 lead.
The third quarter saw both teams struggle to put points on the board, with Bethel's defense continuing to stifle Sterling's offense. Sterling managed only 83 total yards throughout the game, with Bethel's defense forcing several punts and turnover on downs.
In the fourth quarter, Bethel extended their lead with a 81-yard march down the field that ended in a 7-yard touchdown run by running back Torrie Curry.
Bethel's offense was led by running back Torriano Richardson, who racked up 143 yards on 22 carries. Quarterback DJ Ciers also contributed 111 yards through the air, connecting with receivers like Corey Catron and Josiah Buller.
Defensively, Bethel was led by Noah Miller, who recorded nine tackles and an interception. Colton McCarty also made a significant impact with eight tackles and a sack.
With this victory, Bethel starts the season with a 1-0 record, building momentum as they head into their next matchup this Saturday at home against Saint Mary.
