WINFIELD, Kan.—The Bethel College women's basketball team continued its strong conference play with a dominant 83-65 victory over Southwestern College on Wednesday night. With the win, the Threshers (12-9, 11-4 KCAC) and remain in 3rd place in the KCAC standings as they prepare for a key matchup against Evangel this weekend.
Natalie Richards led all scorers with 23 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field, while also contributing four assists and three rebounds. Madyson McKinzie was dominant in the paint, recording 20 points and nine rebounds. Kendall Locke added 18 points, seven rebounds, and four steals, helping to fuel Bethel's efficient offensive attack.
How It Happened
Bethel controlled the game from the start, opening the first quarter with an 18-13 lead behind Richards' early scoring. The Threshers maintained their defensive intensity in the second quarter, forcing turnovers and limiting Southwestern's shot opportunities, heading into halftime with a 38-31 advantage.
The Threshers pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Moundbuilders 23-15 in the third quarter. McKinzie's presence inside and Locke's all-around play allowed Bethel to extend its lead. In the fourth quarter, the Threshers shot a scorching 75% from the field to put the game away comfortably.
Southwestern's Kennedy Ford led her team with 20 points, but Bethel's depth and efficient scoring proved to be the difference in the game.
