North Newton, Kan. – Bethel dominated another second half on Saturday, improving to 3–0 in KCAC play with a 95–78 home win over Bethany.
Carmelo Yakubu delivered another strong performance with 20 points, closing the game late by repeatedly attacking the rim. Dominick Harris was elite once again in Bethel's press, finishing with 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Rustan Griffen added 19 points, including 15 in the second half, while Drew Rodriguez caught fire after the break, knocking down three second-half threes.
Albert Diarra continued to prove he is one of — if not the best — big men in the conference, leading the Threshers with 21 points.
First Half
The first half was tight throughout. Bethel briefly stretched the lead to seven, but Bethany responded with several tough shots to keep it close. The Threshers struggled from deep early, shooting just 2-for-10 from three despite creating quality looks.
Bethel forced 9 turnovers before halftime and once again built a seven-point lead with 1:13 remaining. However, a foul away from the ball gave Bethany two free throws, then after a Bethel free throw, the Swedes beat the buzzer to cut the Threshers' lead to 40–36 at the break.
Second Half
Bethel has owned second halves all season, and this game was no different. As the press began wearing Bethany down, Bethel took full advantage.
Rodriguez sparked the run with three straight threes, giving the Threshers the separation they needed. Bethany hit enough contested shots to hang around for a stretch, but eventually wore down as Bethel surged, pouring in 55 second-half points to close out the win.
