Thresher Track & Field Stands Out at Emporia State Relays

Emporia, Kan. - The Bethel College Track & Field team delivered a strong showing at the Emporia State Relays this past Saturday, highlighted by numerous personal and season bests across both track and field events.

Track Events: The meet kicked off on Friday with impressive performances from the sprint crew. Josiah Buller (23.80) and Fabian Talavera (22.56) each recorded lifetime bests in the 200m, setting the tone for a successful weekend.

Saturday brought even more momentum for the Threshers. In the 100m, Corbin Unruh blazed to a 10.89 finish, moving into the top 8 in KCAC standings. Talavera continued his strong meet with a personal best time of 11.19 in the same event.

The distance squad made their mark in the 800m, with season-best performances from Mia Roman (2:21.66) and Cleo Naranjo (2:27.01), both landing among the KCAC's top 8. On the men's side, Tobin Wise (1:59), Luke Schmidt (2:00), and Braden Esau (2:01) all improved from last week, showing steady progress and climbing the KCAC rankings.

The day on the track concluded with sophomore Marcus Fiedler clocking a new personal best in the 5,000m, finishing in 16:36.45. Fiedler continues his breakout season after setting a PR last week in the 3K steeplechase.

Field Events: Carley Bartell led the way with a 16th-place finish in the discus, throwing a lifetime best of 35.97m — a mark that places her in the top 8 of the KCAC standings. Abby Koontz also posted a top-8 conference mark in the javelin, finishing 15th overall with a season-best 35.61m.

In other field events, Hayden Wallace took 23rd in the hammer throw (37.94m) and 21st in the shot put (12.29m), while Quian Henderson cleared 1.91m in the high jump to place 13th. Myiah Logue rounded out the field performances with a 13th-place finish in the long jump.
