NEWTON, Kan. — The Bethel College women's golf team showed resilience and determination at their home event, the Bethel Spring Invitational, held April 5-6 at Sand Creek Station.
Bethel found themselves in strong position after the opening round, sitting third in the team standings following a combined score of 402. However, the Threshers were dealt a tough blow on Day 2 when illness forced their fourth scorer to withdraw, resulting in an incomplete team score for the final round.
Despite the setback, freshman Marlie Cooper led the way with a standout performance. Cooper fired rounds of 93 and 91 to finish with a two-day total of 184 (+41), earning a tie for fourth place individually in the 18-player field.
Joining Cooper in the top half of the leaderboard were Alyssa Castillo and Carley Littell. Castillo carded rounds of 100 and 94 to place tied for 10th at 194 (+51), while Littell followed closely behind in 12th with a 195 (+52), highlighted by a 98 in the first round.
Clover Maples opened the tournament with a 111 before being unable to continue into the second round due to illness.
Oklahoma Wesleyan captured the team title with a two-day score of 728 (+156), followed by Southwestern Christian in second at 736 (+164).
The Threshers will look to bounce back at their next outing as the spring season continues.
