North Newton, Kan. - The Bethel women's tennis team capped off a standout regular season with a 5-2 win over Friends University on Senior Day, finishing 11-1 in the KCAC to claim second place in the final conference standings.
With Friends fielding only five players, Bethel started with a default win at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Patty Huerta and Daniela Herrera were sharp in a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and the duo of Grace Dawes and Charis Yager stepped up with a 6-4 win on court two.
Singles proved to be a battle early, with Bethel dropping the first set on courts 1, 2, and 3. Grace Dawes and Jenna Mahoney ultimately fell at No. 2 and 3. But Daniela Herrera delivered a clutch performance at the top spot, rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over the reigning KCAC Player of the Year. With the match hanging in the balance, Patty Huerta and Jireh Gonzalez responded with dominant straight-set wins at No. 4 and 5 to secure the team victory.
The program recognized seniors Daniela Herrera and Jenna Mahoney for their contributions during the final home match.
