Softball Swept in Midweek Road Matchup at Bethany

Lindsborg, Kan. — Bethel College (8-21, 4-14 KCAC) dropped both games of a conference doubleheader on the road Tuesday against Bethany College (13-20, 4-12 KCAC). The Swedes won game one 8-3 before pulling away for a 9-1 win in game two.

Bethany scored four runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed in the opener. The Swedes added insurance runs in the second, fifth, and sixth, and held Bethel to three third-inning runs.

Haylee Welsh doubled in Kenzi Young for Bethel's first run, and two more scored on a fielder's choice and throwing errors later in the inning. Welsh, Ashleigh Bodine, Kenzi Young, and Cassie Albin all had extra-base hits in the game.

Richardson took the loss after giving up five runs in 1.1 innings, while Emily Demartino pitched the remaining 4.2 innings and allowed a two-run homer to S. Evans in the sixth.

Bethany's offense stayed hot in game two, scoring in five of six innings and piling up 14 hits. The Swedes struck early and added two-run frames in the third, fifth, and sixth.

Reese McCord had a strong outing at the plate, going 2-for-3 with Bethel's only RBI, which came in the third inning to score Mija Carlson. Ashlyn Rushing also tallied two hits, while Sadie Jensen, Ashleigh Bodine, and Carlson each had one.

Killingsworth went 5.1 innings and was charged with eight earned runs. Emily Demartino entered in relief but could not slow down the Swedes' lineup.
