Bethel football kicked off its 2025 campaign with a tough road test at nationally-ranked No. 14 Southwestern. with the final being 61-7.

The highlight of the night for the Threshers came midway through the third quarter when quarterback Byron Reese connected with Josiah Buller on a 33-yard touchdown strike down the middle of the field. Reese finished 14-for-21 through the air, spreading the ball to seven different receivers, while Noah Miller led the ground game with 47 rushing yards. Bethel showed composure on its 70-yard scoring march, mixing the run and pass to keep the defense off balance.

Defensively, the Threshers generated pressure and came up with key stops. Caleb Jefferson recorded an interception in the red zone to halt a Southwestern drive, while Amerdid Marial paced the team with eight tackles. Avery Richardson added seven stops, and both Justice Hills and Jaric Woodley were credited with half-sacks. In the trenches, Frank Driscoll chipped in 1.5 tackles-for-loss to lead the push up front.

With the first road test complete, the Threshers now turn their focus to opening Thresher Stadium this weekend.
