STERLING, Kan. — Bethel defeated Sterling 1-0 in a contest that was postponed from last Wednesday due to the field being unplayable.
Nathan Guijon scored for the Threshers in the first half, a goal that would prove to be the game winner.
Bethel outshot Sterling 7-4 in the first half and put four attempts on goal to Sterling's one.
Nathan Guijon's 13th-minute goal off a
Hugo Duran assist accounted for the half's scoring, while
Diego Medina made one save to keep Sterling off the board.
The Threshers generated 10 second-half shots and put six on goal, while Sterling had five shots and forced two saves from Medina. Neither team scored in the half, with Bethel applying late pressure that included
Branden Balvanz's saved attempt and
Esnayder Garcia's shot off the crossbar.
Diego Medina, recorded three saves in the contest, as he and the Thresher defense recorded their first shutout of the season.
