Wichita, Kan. - On the track, the sprint group set the tone early. Jason Klabo led the way in the 200m, running 23.17, with freshman Xavier Craven right behind him at 23.48 — a new personal best.
In the middle distances, freshman Asa Johnson put together a really controlled race in the 800m, winning his heat in 2:03.85. Braylon Hunnell followed that up in the 1500m, continuing a strong start to his collegiate career with a PR of 4:22.46.
Marcus Fiedler turned in one of the top performances of the day in the 3,000m steeplechase. The junior crossed in 9:57.34, a personal best that now moves him up to fifth in the conference.
On the women's side, Bethany Schrag closed out the distance events with a strong showing in the 5,000m. She finished second with a time of 19:16.22, putting her sixth in the conference early in the season.
FIELD EVENTS
Darla Crow picked up the win in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 5.52m, a mark that currently sits third in the conference. Abigail Koontz followed with a big throw in the javelin, hitting 38.02m for a PR and a second-place finish, moving her into fourth in the conference.
Ethan Wilcox rounded things out in the pole vault, clearing 3.60m for a new personal best and moving into eighth in the conference standings.
