NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — Bethel defeated Sterling 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 25-17) on Wednesday. The Threshers totaled 54 kills, 82 digs and 10 service aces while holding Sterling to a .136 hitting percentage.
Bethel won the first set 25-23 after both teams finished with 14 kills.
Cameron Offerle led the Threshers with eight kills, and Bethel used an 8-0 run from 11-10 to 19-10 before holding off Sterling late.
Bethel outpaced Sterling in kills, 15-13, led by five from Offerle and four from
Shimiria (Mari) Phillips, and both teams had two service aces. Sterling won the second set 25-21, with Bethel committing seven attack errors and three service errors while Sterling had four attack errors and no service errors.
Bethel took the third set 25-20; the teams each had 10 kills, while the Threshers recorded three service aces to Sterling's two and added two block points. Offerle led Bethel with four kills, and
Alayna Vines served two aces and assisted on both Bethel block points, while Chloe Schmidt finished with four kills for Sterling. Vines recorded a season-high of four service aces.
Bethel took the fourth set 25-17, finishing with a 15-10 edge in kills while getting four kills apiece from Offerle and
Dylan Cochran and three from Vines. The Threshers won seven of the final eight rallies, including four straight points on Cochran's serve to close the set.
