Paul Kempf is in his third year as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers coach for Bethel College.
In 2019 Kempf’s defense finished 9th in the nation and 2nd in the conference in rushing defense per game, allowing only 101.8 yards per game. The defense finished 16th in the nation and 3rd in the conference in total sacks with 32. The Threshers were 23rd in the nation in opponent 3rd down conversion and 28th in the nation in total defense per game. NAIA All-American and first-team All-Conference linebacker Josh Seabolt finished with 101 tackles, 9.5 tackles-for-loss, three sacks, and two interceptions. First-team All-Conference defensive end Carvin Duverge finished 7th in the country with 19 tackles-for-loss and 8.5 sacks. First-team All-Conference safety Dominic Brown ended with five interceptions on the year, good for ninth in the country. The Thresher defense ended the 2019 season with six all-conference players.
From 2014 to 2017 Kempf was a science teacher and the Defensive Coordinator at Wichita Heights High School in Wichita, Kansas. During his time there, Heights had one of the top defenses in the state.
In 2012 and 2013 Kempf was the Special Teams Coordinator and Linebacker Coach at Sterling College. In 2013, Sterling won the program’s first KCAC conference championship.
In 2010 and 2011 Kempf taught physical education and was the Defensive Coordinator at Fairfield High School in Langdon, Kansas.
As a player, Kempf was a wide receiver at Sterling College from 2005 to 2010. During the 2007 season, the team was ranked first in offense in the KCAC, finishing with a 7-2 conference record.
Kempf is a 2010 graduate of Sterling College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science and Physical Education. Kempf and his wife live in Newton with their two sons.
