Volleyball Wins Five Set Thriller Over Avila

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Bethel Thresher Volleyball team hit the road once again, this time to take on the Avila Eagles. After dropping the first set, the Threshers would come back to win the next two, before losing the fourth and eventually taking the fifth set to win the match.

The first set would start out as a tight affair, until the Eagles strung together a 7-1 run to pull ahead 19-11. They would then go on to take the opening set 25-17.

Bethel would take an early 5-3 lead in the second set, but wouldn't be able to get much further ahead than that. Both teams would exchange leads on the way to a 25-23 set finish in favor of the Threshers.

With the match tied 1-1, Bethel would take the tight third set 27-25 behind eight kills from Bailee Alexander and five from Kaitlyn Shima. Mia Loganbill would add in four kills as well.

Avila would jump out to a big lead early in the fourth set and cruise to a 25-8 victory to force a fifth and decisive set.

The fifth set would be very much so a back and forth contest as neither team would lead by more than two points until the Threshers got match point 14-11. The Eagles would score the next point to force another Bethel match point, Loganbill would end the match with a kill to put Avila away.

Bailee Alexander would lead both sides with 18 kills. Mia Loganbill would follow right behind her with 16 kills in the win. Julie Wilhite would finish with 4 blocks. Kaitlyn Shima would have 23 assists and 9 kills. Mia Roman would add in 21 assists. Jenson Roth would lead the way defensively with 20 digs.

The Threshers will be back on the floor on October 6th, at 7:00 PM as they host the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes inside Thresher Gym.
