NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Women's Soccer team played host to the #9 Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles Wednesday night in Thresher Stadium. The Eagles used two late goals to take the 3-1 victory over the Threshers.
The Thresher defense played a stellar first half against the high octane Eagles. Led by senior defender
Abby Edson, Bethel was able to hold Oklahoma Wesleyan scoreless in the first half of a game for the first time since KCAC play began.
Mariah Vallejo finished the first half with three huge saves for the Threshers.
OKWU got on the board with a Bethel own goal off of a corner kick in the 63rd minute.
Claire Hedlund evened the contest up thirteen minutes later when she received a pass in the box and fought through several Eagle defenders before eventually finding her footing and blasting a ball past the OKWU keeper for her 9th goal of the season.
Oklahoma Wesleyan took the lead back in the 81st minute when their second-leading goal scorer got loose in the box and beat Vallejo for the first goal scored by the Eagles.
The Eagles would extend their lead to two goals in the 89th minute when they scored off of a free-kick from 25-yards out that hit the crossbar and came down across the line.
Claire Hedlund finished the contest with a 1.000 shot on goal percentage and a goal.
Mariah Vallejo finished the contest with 10 saves in goal for Bethel.
The Threshers will be back on the pitch on Saturday, October 16th as they travel to take on the Ottawa Braves at 12:00 PM.
