NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The No. 16 ranked Bethel Thresher Football team took on the Avila Eagles inside Thresher Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Threshers cruised past the Eagles in their 54-20 victory.

DJ Ciers opened up the scoring for the contest in Bethel's first drive with a 12-yard touchdown run.
Logan DeMond missed the PAT as the Threshers would go up 6-0.

The Eagles answered back on their ensuing possession to take the lead with a 3-yard touchdown run, 7-6.Â

After turning the ball over on downs deep into Eagle territory, the Threshers closed out the half scoring a touchdown on every possession.
Scott Grider punched it in from 4-yards out and
Joshua Maran punched in the two-point conversion to put the Threshers up 14-7.

Bethel scored their next touchdown with a 10-yard pick-six from
Josh Seabolt, putting the Threshers up 21-7.Â

With 43 seconds left in the opening half, Maran found
Tanner Galliart for a 9-yard touchdown pass extending the Bethel lead to 28-7.

Late in the third quarter, the Eagles pinned the Threshers deep in their own territory with a 56-yard punt. Maran led a 10 play 100-yard drive that finished with him punching it in from 1-yard out.Â

Three plays into the next Eagle drive,
Trey Palmer picked off the Burke pass and took it to the house to put the Threshers up 41-7.Â

Avila scored on a 2-yard touchdown pass and an 80-yard fumble return making the score 41-20.Â

With 4:03 left in the fourth quarter,
Brayden Francis caught a Maran pass in the end zone for a 35-yard touchdown reception to put Bethel up 48-20.Â

Maran punched it in one more time for the Threshers with six seconds left on the clock to put them up 54-20 after another failed PAT.Â

Joshua Maran, who took over in the second quarter, went 4 for 6 for 105 yards and two touchdowns through the air while running for 21 yards and two touchdowns.
DJ Ciers went 2 for 2 through the air for 38 yards while running for 27 yards and a touchdown.Â

Camryn Harrison and
Chantz Scurry carried a majority of the load for the Threshers on the ground. Harrison ran for 113 yards and Scurry 108 yards. The Threshers as a whole totaled 448 yards on the ground and 143 through the air for 581 yards of total offense.Â

Tanner Galliart led the receiving crew with 101 yards on four receptions adding in a touchdown.
Brayden Francis contributed 35 yards and a touchdown.
Matt Hernandez had one reception for 7 yards.Â

The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 23rd as they hit the road again to take on the Sterling Warriors with kick-off set for 1:00 PM.Â
