Mason Murray's Four Touchdown Performance Lifts Threshers Over Sterling 42-21

STERLING, Kan. - The Bethel Thresher Football team travelled to take on the Sterling Warriors Saturday afternoon. The no. 12 Threshers pulled away from the Warriors in the second half on their way to a 42-21 victory.
 
Sterling opened the scoring with a touchdown on their opening drive, a drive that lasted 10 plays and went 65 yards. 
 
Bethel answered right back on a 16-yard touchdown run by Mason Murray. 
 
The Warriors picked off a DJ Ciers pass to give them the ball at the Bethel 45 yard line. Sterling scored on a 4-yard touchdown pass to take a 14-7 lead.
 
The Threshers scored the next three touchdowns in the contest, a 5-yard Chantz Scurry touchdown, a 27-yard reception by Murray, and a 25-yard run by Murray.
 
With Bethel leading 28-14 heading into the fourth quarter, the Warriors cut the lead to just one possession with an 8-yard touchdown pass. 
 
Following a Thresher punt, Brenden Sanders intercepted a Warrior pass and took it to the house to extend the Bethel lead back to two possessions, 35-21. 
 
After forcing a turnover on downs, Bethel put the game away when Murray scored his fourth touchdown of the day, this time a 28-yard touchdown pass from Ciers.
 
DJ Ciers went 3 for 5 for 53 yards and two touchdowns through the air while adding 72 yards on 9 rushes. Chantz Scurry had 15 rushing attempts racking up 85 yards and a touchdown. Mason Murray ran for 81 yards on 7 attempts for 2 touchdowns while catching 2 passes for 55 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mark Lanier led the Thresher defense with 9 tackles, including 3 tackles for a loss.

The Threshers will be back on the field on October 30th at 1:00 PM when they host Tabor College for Senior Day.
