Men's Soccer Takes Advantage of Two Late Goals in 4-2 Victory Over Ottawa

OTTAWA, Kan. - The Bethel Men's Soccer Team took on the Ottawa Braves inside Advent Health Field on the campus of Ottawa University Saturday afternoon. The Threshers used two 88th minute goals to pull ahead late in their 4-2 victory over the Braves.

The Braves got the scoring started in the contest with a 26th-minute goal giving Ottawa the 1-0 lead.

Bethel wouldn't answer back until the 75th-minute when Cristobal Goldberg beat the Brave keeper one-on-one. A Brave defender tried to shield Juan Nicoletti from the ball as it was rolling towards the end line. Nicoletti was able to fake him out and gain possession deep in the box and cut towards the middle where he found Goldberg.

Just three minutes later, Tomas Espinoza put the Threshers on top. He received a pass from the far side of the pitch off of the left foot of Muhamed Jammeh. Espinoza came sliding into the cross to one-touch it past the keeper giving Bethel the 2-1 lead.

Two minutes after taking the lead, the Threshers would give it right back as they fouled giving the Braves a free-kick from 27-yards out. Ottawa scored the free-kick to even the contest 2-2.

Lucas Pardo received a through ball in the box from Espinoza to set up Juan Nicoletti's 12th goal of the season. Pardo passed the ball from the right side of the box through the defense to the middle where Nicoletti was waiting. Nicoletti one-touched the ball past the diving keeper putting the Threshers up 3-2.

After a miscue by the Brave defense, Nicoletti was racing towards the keeper when he was fouled in the box giving Bethel the chance at a penalty kick. The goalie guessed right on Pardo's PK attempt, but the ball bounced off of his hands and into the goal giving the Threshers the late 4-2 lead.

The Threshers will be back on the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 20th as they host the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes with kick-off slated for 7:30 PM.
