Football Caps Off Fall Fest with a Record Night in 69-6 Victory Over Bethany

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel Threshers hosted the Bethany Swedes Saturday evening inside Thresher Stadium to conclude 2021 Fall Fest. Bethel would set two offensive records in their 69-6 blowout victory over the Swedes.

DJ Ciers, getting the start at quarterback, would cap off the Threshers first drive, a ten-play 66 yard drive with a  2-yard touchdown run.

Two Bethel possessions later, they would get in the end zone again when Tucker Smith would break off a 42-yard touchdown run to put the Threshers up 13-0 halfway through the second quarter. Ciers would run for his second touchdown of the night right before the end of the second period as Bethel would take a 20-0 lead into the intermission.

The Threshers would score on every possession in the second half after only scoring on three of their five possessions in the first half.

Ciers would add another rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown of 28-yards to Brayden Francis in the third quarter. Kayden Christiansen would punch the ball in from 7-yards out in between Ciers rushing and passing touchdowns. The Swedes would get in the end zone with just over two minutes left in the third quarter. Trey Palmer would block the PAT to make the score 41-6 heading to the final period of play.

Smith would score the first two touchdowns of the fourth for the Threshers, a 6-yard run, and a 77-yard run. Davontae Pickard would add in a 16-yard touchdown run in the quarter as well. Kashius McCray would score his first collegiate touchdown on a 4-yard run to cap off the scoring to make the score 69-6.

The Threshers would rush for 618 yards, breaking a school record that was set last season. The second record the Threshers would break in tonight's contest was yards of total offense, a record that was set in 1998 at 629. Tonight, the Threshers would have 697 yards of total offense to blow past the previous record.

DJ Ciers would go 4 of 7 for 79 yards and a touchdown through the air while rushing 11 times for 68 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tucker Smith would lead the ground game for the Threshers as he would total 167 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 4 touches. Chantz Scurry would add in 120 yards on 13 attempts. Tanner Galliart would have 2 receptions for 38 yards to lead the receivers.

Josh Seabolt would lead the Thresher defense with 12 tackles. Trey Palmer would have an interception, and a blocked field goal to go with his 2 tackles. The Thresher defense as a whole would hold the Swedes to 198 total yards of offense, most of which came in the second half as Bethel held Bethany to just 79 yards of total offense in the first half.

Bethel will be back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 9th as they head to Winfield, Kan. to take on #16 Southwestern College with kick-off set for 1:00 PM.
