Volleyball's Woes Continue Against the Spires in 3-0 Loss

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - The Bethel Thresher Volleyball team hit the road Wednesday evening to take on the University of Saint Mary Spires. After taking the first two sets handedly, the Spires held off the Thresher comeback in the third set to take a 3-0 victory.

After jumping out to an early 5-3 lead, the Threshers and Spires would trade points back and forth until Saint Mary took a 12-11 lead. At this point in the opening set, the Spires put their foot on the gas for ten unanswered points. After a Bethel point on a kill from Mia Loganbill, the Spires closed the door on the Threshers taking a 25-12 first set victory.

The struggles continued for Bethel into the second set as they fell behind early before allowing Saint Mary to string together another ten unanswered points on their way to a second set victory with a score of 25-9.

The Threshers would come alive in the third set as they looked to avoid the sweep. Despite falling behind early in the set, the Threshers showed some grit as they closed out a nine point deficit to trail by just one point, 14-13. Later on in the set, Loganbill would tie the contest at 16 all with a kill. The Spires countered with a 4-0 run to take a 20-16 lead, before Bethel rattled off three straight points of their own to get right back into the set. Unfortunately for the Threshers, they couldn't limit the Spire attack late in the set as Saint Mary took the third and final set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

Harlie Hunton led both sides with 4 blocks in the match.

The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, October 23rd as they take on McPherson College in McPherson, Kan.
