No. 8 Threshers Roll to 86-64 Victory Over Oklahoma City

MCPHERSON. Kan. - The Bethel Thresher Men's Basketball team opened up their 2021 season this afternoon against the Oklahoma City Stars. The no. 8 ranked Threshers controlled the game from the tip as they never trailed in their 86-64 victory.

The game started in the most fitting way possible, reigning KCAC Conference Player of the Year Jaylon Scott knocking down a three. The Threshers were able to build up a lead of 14 points in the opening half, and ultimately took a 13 point lead into the intermission.

Scott led the way for Bethel in the first half nearly picking up a double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Tavaughn Flowers added in 9 points on 3 of 5 shooting. The Threshers as a team shot over 48 percent from the field in the opening half while holding the Stars to just 30 percent from the floor.

The Threshers came out of the break rolling as they built their lead up to 20 points when Bryant Mocaby knocked down two free throws following a technical foul on the Stars. Thirty seconds later, a Javen Hutton three-point basket built the Bethel lead to 26 points.

After emptying the bench, the Threshers hovered right around a 20 point lead. Jared Richardson capped off the scoring for the contest with just under a minute and a half left when he knocked down a three-point basket to make the score 86-64.

Jaylon Scott led the way for the Threshers picking up his first double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Bryant Mocaby finished as the second leading scorer for Bethel with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Tavaughn Flowers finished with 9 points, Adam Gouro and Javen Hutton each finished with 8 points.
