NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel Thresher Women's Volleyball team hosted the Southwestern Moundbuilders with KCAC Postseason implications on the line on Saturday evening inside Thresher Gym. The winner would secure the 12th spot in the conference postseason tournament, the loser misses out. After dropping the first set, the Threshers won the next three to take a 3-1 victory.
After dropping the first set 25-21, the Threshers came out ready to even the match. With the set 14-13 in favor of Bethel, the Threshers ripped off six straight points to take a 20-13 lead. Southwestern took a timeout and then followed that up with three straight points, but Bethel was able to put them away and take the set 25-19.
Early in the third set, Bethel was able to build up a 9-4 lead. Following a mini rally from the Moundbuilders, the Threshers were able to answer every move Southwestern made. The contest never got any closer than two point in the third set as Bethel pulled out a 25-22 win.
Southwestern came out in the fourth set looking to even up the contest. They jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage, but Bethel was able to respond with a 4-0 run to take a 9-8 lead. Both teams began trading blows as there were five ties and three lead changes that got us to Bethel trailing 19-17.
It was at this point that the Threshers took over. They scored three straight points to take a 20-19 lead. The Moundbuilders were able to tie the contest at 20, but Bethel put their foot on the pedal and scored the final five points of the match to close out the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
Mia Loganbill and
Madelyn Baxter both finished the contest with 13 kills.
Mia Roman had a match high 24 assists.
J'Lynne Stolsworth led Bethel with 12 digs.
The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, November 6th at 7:00 PM as they take on Sterling College for Senior Night.
