LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - The Bethel College Football team played it's final KCAC Conference contest Saturday Afternoon against the Saint Mary Spires. The Threshers used a big ffirst half to propell them to a 54-21 victory.
On the Threshers opening drive, they went 3 plays for 33 yards capped of by a
Chantz Scurry 18-yard run. The PAT would be missed as Bethel took an early 6-0 lead. The Threshers scored two more times in the opening quarter, a 43-yard touchdown run by
Camryn Harrison and a 62-yard reception from
DJ Ciers to
Brayden Francis.
After taking a 19-0 lead after the first quarter, the Threshers added two more touchdowns before the half while the defense held strong keeping the Spires scoreless. Both of the Bethel touchdowns came from the feet of Scurry as he punched it in from 4 and 11 yards to total three touchdowns on the day. The Threshers took a 33-0 lead into the break.
The Spires got on the board in their opening possession of the second half with a 66-yard touchdown pass. Scurry punched in his fourth touchdown of the contest with a 7-yard run making the score 40-7.
Both teams traded scores the rest of the way with the Ciers to Francis combo connecting another time this time for a 70-yard touchdown.
Denzel Dixon forced a fumble late in the fourth and returned it for a touchdown to cap off the scoring for the Threshers in their 54-21 victory.
Dj Ciers went 7 of 8 for 235 yards through the air.
Chantz Scurry led the ground game as he totalled 83 yards on 13 attempts and 4 touchdowns.
Camryn Harrison ran for 58 yards on 3 attempts and a touchdown.
Brayden Francis had 3 catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns.
Phillip Williams led the defense with 11 tackles, 10 solo, and an interception.
Denzel Dixon had a forced fumble, fumble recovery, interception, and a touchdown in the contest.
The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, November 13th as they head to Canyon, Texas to take on NCAA Division II West Texas A&M with kick-off set for 11:00 AM.
