Men's Basketball Drops Overtime Thriller to MACU 92-84

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The No. 8 Bethel College Men's Basketball team took on Mid-America Christian in non-conference play Saturday Evening inside Gaulke Activity Center. The Threshers were unable to close out the game late in regulation as the Evangels got hot late on their way to a 92-84 victory over Bethel.

Bethel was able to build up a lead as big as ten points halfway through the opening quarter. The Evangels closed out the opening period strong outscoring the Threshers 21-11 in the final 8:45. The contest went into the intermission tied at 35.

The second half was the opposite, Mid-America Christian opened up the half as they opened up a nine point lead early in the second half. Bethel closed out regulation strong, but missed three free throws that could have iced the game with under 29 seconds left in the contest. Those missed free throws allowed the Evangels to come down and knock down an acrobatic shot with 4.7 seconds left on the clock.

MACU came out in the overtime period on fire, making their first three shots. Jaylon Scott made a jump shot and Adam Gouro made two free throws to cut the Evangel lead to two, as close as they were able to get the contest in the overtime period.

Clifford Byrd II led the Threshers in scoring with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Jaylon Scott recorded his third double-double of the season, 17 points and 14 boards. Jordan Neely added 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting from three point range.

The Threshers will be back in action on Friday, November 12th at 6:00 PM as they take on Mid-America Nazarene in Olathe, Kan.
