NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel Football team capped off the busy day inside Thresher Stadium as they took on the Friends Falcons. The Threshers would steamroll past the Falcons 59-3 for their second week in a row of not giving up a touchdown.
In the third play from scrimmage,
Chantz Scurry would break off a 67-yard touchdown run to put the Threshers up 7-0 early. The Falcons would settle for a field goal on their ensuing possession to make the score 7-3. Bethel would answer right back with a 7 play, 75-yard drive that would be capped off with a
Landon Barnes 16-yard touchdown. In a possession that would span parts of the first and second quarters, the Threshers would drive 65 yards down the field and have to settle for a
Brayden Francis field goal to make the score 17-3 with just over 12 minutes left in the half.
Following a possession for Friends that would end in a punt, both teams would miss field goals. Bethel would get the ball back with a little over 5 minutes left in the half and Barnes would lead a touchdown drive that would include a completed pass to
Tanner Galliart. Barnes would cap the drive by getting into the endzone for the second time with 36 seconds left in the half to put the Threshers up 24-3 to head into the half.
Bethel would come out of the intermission ready to pour it on. With 8:49 left in the third quarter, freshman
Scott Grider would punch it in from 11 yards out extend the Bethel lead to 28, 31-3. The Falcons would punt on their ensuing possession and
Trey Palmer would break tackles and ankles on his way to the endzone. Barnes and
Mason Murray would link up for a 70-yard touchdown pass following another Falcon punt as the Threshers would go up 45-3.
Bethel would find the endzone again at the 6:46 mark in the 4th quarter when QB
DJ Ciers would run it in from 14 yards out to make it 52-3.
Joshua Maran would punch in the final touchdown for the Threshers with the 3 yard QB keeper.
The Threshers would run for 543 yards, the second-most ever, and throw for 101 yards. The Bethel defense would hold the Falcons to just 155 yards of total offense, their second straight game of holding the opposing offense under 170 total yards. Barnes would lead the Thresher running attack once again with 152 yards. Scurry would run it 9 times for 110 yards and a 12.2 yd/rush average. The Threshers would also set the third-highest points scored mark in this contest.
The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 18th as they host #24 Kansas Wesleyan with kick-off set for 6:00 PM.
