NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel Thresher Women's Soccer team returned to Thresher Stadium Saturday afternoon looking to get back into the win column as they played host to the Bethany Swedes. The Threshers would need just short of three minutes of extra time to put the Swedes away 2-1.
Neither team would be able to capitalize on their chances in the first half as we would enter halftime with a scoreless tie.
The Swedes would break the nill-nill tie in the 52nd minute. After the ball would rattle around in the box, it would find it's way out to Bethany's Espino who would chip it over the top and into the net from 15 yards out.
Bethel would answer back five minutes later after a handball in the box by a Bethany defender.
Taylor Dashney would take the penalty kick and beat the Swede keeper to the left to even the contest back up.
Neither team would score for the remaining time of the regulation period. In the 93rd minute,
Jazlyn Reese would take a shot that would ricochet around the box before
Claire Hedlund would settle it and blast it past the Bethany keeper to end the match with the Golden Goal.
The Threshers will be back on the pitch on Wednesday, September 28th at 8:00 PM as they travel to Wichita to take on Friends.
