NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel Thresher Volleyball team hosted York College for their first home KCAC Conference match of the season. The Threshers would go up 2-0 after the first two sets, but the Panthers would rally back to take the match 3-2.
The Threshers would go down five points early in the first set, before outscoring the Panthers 10-1 to take a 15-11 lead. Bethel would force a York timeout after going up seven points, 19-12. The Panthers would get the Thresher lead down to two points, but Bethel would put them away for a 25-22 first set victory.
In set two, the Threshers would jump out to a 12 to 5 lead behind some tough serving from
Mia Roman. Bethel would string together runs of 7, 5, and multiple runs of 4 points on their way to a 25-13 set two victory.
After falling behind 2-0, the Panthers would pick up their energy levels. Both teams would exchange 4-0 runs to begin the match. After that, the Threshers would be unable to string together multiple points in a row as they would drop the match 25-16.
In set four, both teams would start out trading points. Tied 10-10, York would pull away for a 19-12 lead. However, the Threshers would come storming back to trail by just one point, 21-20, behind two kills and a block from
Mia Loganbill. After a Panther timeout, the teams would exchange points and York would take a 25-22 set victory to force a fifth and final set.
Bethel would start out hot in the fifth set as they would gain a four-point lead, 9-5 to force a York timeout. Following the timeout, York would rally to trail 11-9. The Panthers would then score three straight to force a Bethel timeout at 12-11. York would come out of the timeout and score the next three points to take the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.
Loganbill would lead the contest with 18 kills.
Katey Wilhelm would finish the night with a contest high 21 digs.
The Threshers will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7:00 PM as they travel to Kansas City, Mo. to take on the Avila Eagles.
