Bearup, Calzonetti record double-doubles in Threshers 78-56 victory over RV KWU

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Women's Basketball team hosted the RV Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes for their first home game of the new year on Saturday afternoon. The Threshers used a 50 point second half to take down the Coyotes 78-56.

Bethel never trailed in the first half of the contest. Bearup and Calzonetti were the only Threshers to score in the opening quarter as they combined for 12 points. The Bethel defense came to play as they held the Coyotes to just 8 points in the opening 10 minutes of play. Kansas Wesleyan put together a better second quarter as they outscored Bethel by 4 to tie the contest 28-28 heading into the intermission.

The Threshers came out of the break scorching hot as they shot over 71% from the floor in the third quarter led by Alex Bearup who put up 8 points and was perfect from the floor. Heading into the final period, Bethel led by 11 points and continued to build upon their lead as they shot 50% from three point range in the final 10 minutes of regulation. The Threshers score 50 points in the final 20 minutes while holding the Coyotes to 28 again.

Key Statistic

Alex Bearup and Josie Calzonetti both recorded double-doubles for the Threshers, the first time Bethel has had multiple double-doubles in a contest this season. Calzonetti's 16 points and 11 rebounds marks her second straight double-double. Bearup finished the contest leading all scorers with 18 points, pulling in 10 boards.

The Threshers lost the points in the paint battle 22-20 to the Coyotes.

Bethel finished the game with 12 steals.
