Volleyball picks up the fifth set victory over McPherson on Senior Night

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Volleyball team looked to stay near the top in the KCAC standings as they hosted the McPherson College Bulldogs inside Thresher Gym. The battle of the fourth and fifth seeds in the standings went to a decisive fifth set with Bethel coming out on top. This match saw great defense on both sides with the Bulldogs turning in 86 digs and the Threshers 101.
 
The first set saw the visitor come out on top 25-20. After a slow start to the set, the Threshers came alive towards the end making it a close contest. Bethel trailed by seven multiple times in the opener. Landree Merriman led the Thresher attack in the set with four kills while hitting .571.
 
Bethel continued their momentum into the second set as they took the commanding 25-13 victory. The Threshers led wire to wire as they controlled every aspect of the game. Mia Loganbill came alive in the set recording five kills on ten attempts. 
 
The third set was a tightly contested game from the first serve. The largest lead of the set was four in favor of the visiting Bulldogs. The story of the set for the Threshers was errors as they committed 16 in the 26-24 loss while the Bulldogs turned in just seven. Loganbill stayed hot turning in five kills on nine attempts.
 
The Threshers did exactly what they did in the third set, responded to a loss with a dominant victory. BC cleaned up their errors in the set committing just seven in the 25-16 victory as they forced the decisive fifth set. The Thresher defense turned in 24 digs in the set.
 
The fifth set saw Bethel jump out to an early 3-1 lead with kills from Loganbill, Jordan Boone and Harlee Hunton. Mac took a 4-3 and 5-4 lead before Bethel battled back to control the points. The Threshers trailed just one more time in the set, 9-8. After tying the score 9-9, Bethel was dominant. On senior night, Mia Loganbill shined the brightest when her team needed her the most. She recorded the final two kills for the Threshers to seal the victory.
 
Mia Loganbill recorded a career-high 20 kills in the five-set victory. Katey Wilhelm recorded 32 digs in the victory, a career-high for her as well. Mia Roman and Kaitlyn Shima were nearly even in assists as Roman turned in 29 and Shima 27. 
 
The Threshers will be back in action on Tuesday, October 25th as they travel to Oklahoma Wesleyan for another contest with high KCAC standing implications. The first serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
