Women's Basketball drops home contest to College of the Ozarks

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Women's Basketball team took on College of the Ozarks in their final non-conference tune up before KCAC play begins. The Threshers kept it close after one quarter of play, but were unable to slow the Bobcats offense down as the game went on. College of the Ozarks got better as the contest progressed scoring more points in every quarter than the one before as they took the 92-66 victory.

Bethel's three point shooting kept them in the contest in the opening ten minutes as they knocked home three to the Bobcats zero. Both teams knocked down five shots in the quarter as Bethel shot 31.3% and C of O shot 55.6%. The difference in the quarter came at the charity stripe where Ozarks was the only team to attempt any going six of seven.

After trailing 16-13 heading into the second quarter, the Threshers tied the game just 90 seconds into the second quarter, 19-19. Jasmine Peete's sixth point of the quarter gave BC the 26-24 lead with just over two minutes left in the half. The Bobcats outscored the Threshers 15-2 to close out the half taking a 39-28 advantage into the break. Brianna Clark and Kaitlyn McKenna had 7 points apiece to lead Bethel.

Both teams shot the ball well in the third quarter with College of the Ozarks expanding their lead by three points. The Threshers shot over 42% from the field and exactly 50% from three point range while adding in 9/10 shooting from the charity stripe for their largest scoring quarter of the contest. Unfortunately for Bethel, the Bobcats were even more efficient shooting over 58% from the field and 33% from three point range while knocking down 11 free throws. College of the Ozarks built their lead up to as much as 19 halfway through the quarter and Bethel made its run late cutting it down to as little as ten at the two minute mark.

With the Bobcats holding a 65-51 lead going into the final quarter, they turned in their best offensive quarter of the contest pouring in 27 points on 11 of 19 shooting. Bethel shot 33% from the floor as they were outscored by 12 in the final frame as C of O took the 92-66 victory, their third over a KCAC opponent this season.

Jordyn Lyons led three Threshers in double-figure scoring with 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting including 3 of 6 from deep. Kaitlyn McKenna added in 11 points, while Jasmine Peete had 10. Brianna Clark led Bethel with 5 rebounds in the loss. Caryn Yoder had three assists to lead Bethel.
