Career night from Freshour lifts Women's Basketball to first KCAC win with 62-56 victory over Avila

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Bethel College Women's Basketball team took on the Avila Eagles in a Thanksgiving week KCAC matchup. The Threshers did not trail at the end of any quarter in the contest as they held on late for the 62-56 victory thanks to a career high 24 points from junior forward Jaycee Freshour.

The first quarter saw Bethel jump out to a quick five point lead, 7-2, behind five points from Freshour and a bucket from Carley Robb. The Threshers led by as much as seven points in the opening frame, but took a four point lead into the second quarter, 11-7.

Bethel was outscored by Avila in the second quarter by three points, 22-19. The Threshers took the 30-29 lead into the intermission behind 15 points from Freshour who was a perfect three for three from three point range. Despite being outscored BC shot 57.1% from the floor in the quarter to AU's 50%. The difference in the quarter came at the charity stripe where Avila was 5/9 and Bethel 1/1.

The Threshers were once again outscored in the third quarter, this time by just one point. Jasmine Peete did most of the damage for Bethel in the third quarter scoring six points on 2/2 from the floor, knocking down 2/2 free throws. 

After heading into the final 10 minutes tied 45-45, BC ballooned their lead to nine points with 4:44 left to play, the largest lead for either side in the contest. Bethel never trailed in the quarter as Freshour, Peete and Brianna Clark scored 4 points a piece in the frame.

Jaycee Freshour was the lone Thresher to knock down a three point basket in the win going 4/5 from deep.
